A Turkish engineer kidnapped in Afghanistan last year has been freed following negotiations involving the Turkish embassy in Kabul, the Anatolia news agency reported, quoting diplomats.
The agency gave no details on the identity of the kidnappers or on how Coskun Caloglu, who had been snatched in the southwestern Afghan province of Nimroz, was released.
Caloglu is currently at the Turkish embasssy in Kabul, the diplomats were quoted as saying.
Abductions targeting both Afghans and foreigners are quite common in Afghanistan, where they are carried out by Taliban insurgents or criminal gangs to secure ransoms.
Four Turks working for a construction firm and their Afghan driver were abducted in eastern Afghanistan in late December.
Turkey, NATO's sole Muslim member which has the second largest standing army in the alliance, currently has 1,800 soldiers serving in the 140,000-strong International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
Last October, it agreed to extend by one year its command of NATO peacekeepers in the Afghan capital of Kabul.
Unlike other European members of ISAF, Turkey's mission is limited to patrols and its troops do not take part in combat operations.
