Turkey's takes over term presidency for the UN Security Council on September 1st. In the month of September, Turkey stands to chair two high-level UN Security Council meetings in which state and government leaders from 192 UN member countries will convene.
According to information obtained from diplomatic sources, while Turkey takes on presidency of the UN Security Council from September 1st to the 30th, President Abdullah Gül will chair a UN Security Council meeting on September 23rd on increasing the protection of peace.
Following the meeting, a presidency statement prepared by Turkey is expected to be accepted. The statement is anticipated to focus on the importance of discussing, 'preventative diplomacy, establish peace after conflict and protecting the peace' as a whole and not as separate issues.
The second significant meeting to be held during Turkey's presidency will be on September 27th and chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu which will deal with the fight against terrorism.
